Friendship
I pruned these roses very late this year, so that I was cutting on the new growth, trying to keep them pegged back, but trying also to protect the likelihood of them flowering this year. I thought I had misjudged it, but buds appeared a few weeks ago and now they are bursting forth, being yellow, in friendship. Friendship levels today were mixed. At the dechetterie (dump) a very sniffy "out of town" person seemed annoyed that I pushed my trailer up beside his at the skip reserved for garden waste. Never mind that he had placed his own trailer so as to hog all the space and then wandered off in a reverie, chatting with all and sundry and ignoring the fact that I was having to wait until he felt inclined to move. I have met this unfriendly behaviour in supermarkets lately where people do most of their shopping, park their trolley in the cashier queue and then wander off to collect various other items that they either had forgotten to get or suddenly remembered that they need. Anyway, the gardien at the dechetterie was friendly and allowed us to open up the security barrier to discharge our tree cuttings. Later we had the Yorkies around for drinks, very friendly, and our friendly neighbour, Jeanine stopped for a chat about how some people are not keeping up the village standards by not cutting their verges and not keeping their gardens tidy. We do, of course, keep all of ours duly tidy as she acknowledges, but some others may be on the receiving end of her wrath at this week's meeting of the local council! Anyway, we enjoyed lots of wine and chat with the Yorkies and suddenly the sun went down!
