The "Plague Window"

This stained glass window is in the Parish Church of St Lawrence in the Derbyshire village of Eyam, and depicts scenes from the plague.

This village was devastated in 1665 by an epidemic of bubonic plague that killed 275 villagers out of a total population of 350.

(There is some academic disagreement about that population figure, but we do not need to delve into that.)

Eyam bravely isolated itself and maintained a strict quarantine and prevented the dusease from spreading out into surrounding communities.

The entire village today constitutes a memorial to the plague events and makes for a fascinating visit.
