Walking for health anniversary

A diary blip today - the photo is from a presentation to recognise the 10th anniversary of Walking for Health in Milton Keynes.  The scheme is run locally by volunteers within an overall umbrella organisation supported by the Dept of Health, Macmillan, the Ramblers and the local council.  In Milton Keynes it started with a handful of people walking once a week, called the Shenley Walks.  Now there's at least one walk each day of the week in MK, and the Shenley Walks average 100 people walking for free on a Tuesday, split into 4 levels of ability and walk up to 4 miles in an hour.  We enjoy the walk, the company, the health benefits and obviously the tea and biscuits afterwards!!!

The biggest thanks go to the walk leader volunteers, particularly Sue and Hayley who set the original walk up in Milton Keynes and still volunteer 10 years on. If you like walking, I'd definitely recommend seeing if there is a local scheme near you.
