The Greta

Did our usual walk from Tankerton into Whitstable today stopping at the harbour to down an oyster and along the High Street viewing pictures in the Horsebridge and then visiting butchers and greengrocers which abound here. Our final destination was the Farmers' Market but we only bought olives there, very expensive ones. Anyway my blip for today is the Greta, a Thames barge built in 1892 and the oldest still working little ship of Dunkirk. My wounded father in law was rescued from the beach of Dunkirk in a retreat which has come to be viewed as paradoxically heroic. If only the BBC commentators on the flotilla had done their homework. It was great to hear Ian Hislop on TV last night praising this event in the face of cynicism from his fellow panellists and to hear the audience cheering their approval.
