Whodunnit???

Someone has been digging in the patio rose pot! There is a distinct lack of evidence as to the culprit. My cats do not dig in pots so they are not suspects. So... Could it be squirrels? I doubt it as they are too busy robbing the birds of their seeds and nuts to bother having to forage in a pot. Could it be Mr Fox? Haven't seen sight of him since I chased him away from the rabbit run. The badger family? I do not know enough about badger habits.
