Bergen
Our last port of call on this trip today. A dull, but dry morning saw us up Mt Floyen via the funicular. The few minute trip provided us with a panoramic view of the harbour area of the city.
This is another city which lost many of its old wooden houses due to fire early last century and later in an ammunition ship explosion. There are some still traditional houses in Bryggen, in the waterfront district with its medieval Hanseatic buildings.
Norway can be an expensive country to visit. The simple purchase of a coffee can be 15 kroner at the botanical gardens in Tromso to a staggering 131 kroner for 2 coffees and a piece of cake (to share) in Bergen. The exchange rate is 11+ kroner to the £ at present!! So about £11 – 12 for our treat!!
We have now left Bergen and are sailing south, due to arrive in Southampton on Saturday.
