The local indoor market
open most mornings selling fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. It's small, we didn't come across it until earlier this week and what a joy to shop like this. Opposite is the local bakery, a hive of industry, noise and heat, we like their sweet aniseed flavoured bread and range of loaves.
From the market we bought cherries, they are sweet and delicious, a Mango with a choice of one for eating today or tomorrow, today is good thank you. Also salad foods and fish for the evening meal, I did the international sign for gutting and it's looking good.
The morning treat is a coffee, today with a bonus of toasted baguette, olive oil and concasse of tomato spooned on top. The cafe is shaded, a lively place where people rush in - or not in our case.
When sat there we watch the scooters go by, very often carrying odd cargos, the cutest being a poodle stood in front of the riders knees, tongue hanging out looking very pleased with all that was on offer. Later plumbing materials, meters long, wound around the kneck and today a wide crop of something like a dried maize stalks hanging from the rear. We now look to see who can spot the most obscure load. So far the large boxes of prawns tops the list. Two polystyrene boxes of some value placed in the foot well of the scooter in front of the riders knees. It must be acceptable if not legal - each day we see a number of police vehicles driving around the place - although I hate to imagine the scene if the prawns should come adrift.
