Pizza's Off

Bit of a stream of consciousness Blip today for which I apologise in advance.  Hot again today, 33 degrees.  Still, we pushed on with our "jobs", Mrs Mac, who will be known as "N" from now on,  repainting beams downstairs (lovely job, the painting not "N", oh heck, of course she is lovely too, I am digging a bit of a hole here!).  I was grouting tiles and making black out blinds.  The upstairs study come kiddies bedroom really needed a blackout blind, tricky with a Velux window unless you want to pay a fortune for a bespoke one from Mr Velux himself.  Anyway, I got the job job done with a light wooden frame and some cut-offs from an old blind.  We are currently sleeping downstairs-downstairs, down two flights from the aforementioned study, because the nights are much cooler down there at the moment. But we were awake from 5 a.m. this morning because it was bright daylight.  So, blackout blinds were definitely required there too (easy non-Velux ones this time), except the local stores do not stock the right size.  So I had to buy the next size up and cut them down to the correct width.  I was hot and bothered and looking forward to dinner by this time.  For once we had decided to buy a ready made pizza rather than cook.  Whilst I was cutting the blinds down to size N was adding extras to the Leclerc pizza ready for the oven.  My nose began to twitch, as did N's, something didn't smell quite right, the cheese and ham pizza smelt to high heaven.  We came straight home after buying it, so not our fault, it clearly had not been stored and/or handled properly by M Leclerc's chiller compartment team.  Soooo, pizza in the bin, both of us getting to our tetchy limit by now, a big can of confit de canard (stock cupboard emergency fast food over here) saved the day.  N did cubed tatties roasted in the excess duck fat, bloody brilliant!  The pic is from the action in next door's field today, hay baling.  Last year this took place on 17 July (see my blip for that day).  We are three weeks ahead this year, testimony to the hot dry summer that we have enjoyed so far in 2015.
