Making the most of it

The sun made an appearance today and all the menagerie enjoyed the garden.

The blackbirds woke me up by sounding all their parental alarms. I was worried in case one of their young had fallen from the nest, but after some investigation via the kitchen widow and the appearance of a sheepish-looking Whisky cat, I think he must have got too near the nest and Mr and Mrs Blackbird were trying to distract him. They did their job well because when they eventually deemed it safe to return to the nest, two orange gaping beaks greeted their return. So, I know now that there are at least two chicks. I'm pretty sure that the cats can't get at them fully, but they may be able to dip a paw between the tough thorns.

I've had a day of relaxing and sorting. My sunflower seedlings are doing well (I nicked the seeds from the birdfeed) and only one has been nibbled by a snail or squirrel.

I watched Proof on iPlayer. I saw my friend act Jake Gyllenhaal's part at the South London Theatre a year or so ago. I enjoyed the film, but the play I saw was more engaging.
