McKenzie Country
Just like two days ago I again headed inland to the McKenzie Basin and the Lakes. My friend & I purposely didn't leave early as the roads are pretty dicey icey. We travelled through the Waitaki Valley, to Omarama (where the temperatures over the last two mornings have been -20C) then through to the Lindus Pass. Not so much snow there but the mountains, shadows and skies were fabulous. We stopped at the Wrinkly Ram for lunch the temperature was 1 deg. From there we travelled on to Twizel, Lake Pukaki and Lake Tekapo.
My blip is three pictures stitched together. Taken at Irishman's Creek (near Lake Tekapo) with the Southern Alps behind me and just as the sun was setting, 4.45pm, the temperature -4C. This canal is part of a complex series of canals and power stations throughout the McKenzie. From here to Lake Tekapo the roads were terrible, snow and ice, we were reduced to a slow crawl. The first of my extra's is just coming into Tekapo and of course the other one most people will recognise.....The Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo.
Late home and been watching rugby semi finals - the first game Hurricanes (NZ) Versus Brumbies (Ozzie) won by the Hurricanes. Now watching Highlanders (NZ) versus Warratahs (Ozzie) - a very late night in store as its now 10.30 pm, I'm very tired but will see it out (asyoudo)
Rainie
A Midnight Edit.....our Highlanders won, meaning the final is between two NZ teams. (Stiff bickies you Ozzies and Sth Africans)
