And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. Joel 2: 25

Not everyone likes the Corpus clock in Cambridge (I love it), but the image of our golden years eaten away by this grim metallic mechanical insect is very persuasive - particularly in this city of gleaming spires and gilded youth.
