Avoid Alcohol?

At last got a date to have surgery to, hopefully, repair a ruptured rotator cuff muscle.  Or to use the medical nomenclature my buggered shoulder.

This is the list of extensive instructions from the hospital.
No eating after midnight even though the surgery may not be till the afternoon.  Luckily there is no danger of me starving to death!
Very specific details of what sort of liquids I may consume between midnight and 06:30.

Then the killer line...
"You should avoid alcohol intake the night before admission and on the morning of surgery, if possible."

Wow, boozing before 08:00 in the morning has NEVER occurred to me.
