Chania Day 3
As soon as I woke I knew my wrist injury wasn't as bad as had been feared. I had hardly any pain, and I was able to make a fist without much difficulty. Still, I'll keep the half-cast on for a few days and follow medical advice. Since the cast bit is just a strip along the back of my hand an up the arm short of the elbow, I should even manage to remove it alone.
So the day began on a high note. Brunch today was in a restaurant we'd been to before and had liked, and it was good again. After that we did some more exploring, visited a supermarket for some bits and pieces, stopped a couple of times for more food and coffee, fitted in a siesta, went down to the harbour to enquire about boat trips, had a pit stop in Café Théo's rooftop terrace, made our way up to a part of the harbour Carl had seen yesterday on the trike tour, almost gate-crashed a top-shots reception in the Naval Academy or whatever it is, and started off on a bit of a trek to find a highly regarded seafood restaurant Carl had decided would be a suitable place to go as compensation for the wrist accident.
On the way we had one of our pit stops and had an encounter with a guy from Boston who's now living near Chania and whose young daughter is growing up multi-lingually. He told us about the Greek government's decision to hold a referendum about the terms of their deal with the dreaded Troika, news that rather put a damper on things.
The sun was setting as we walked along the coast to Nea Chora and beyond. Wonderful things were happening in the sky, some sense of which is hopefully captured in today's blip. The meal at the seafood restaurant was okay but not great, despite all the great reports, but we'd still thoroughly enjoyed our excursion. We got a taxi back to Chania and had a final nightcap at a little kiosk which specialised in cocktails.
