Pompeii

Today we visited Pompeii and was amazed as to sheer scale and detail that has been preserved in this ordinary Roman town when the volcano Versuvius erupted in 79AD and buried it in ash. Our guide explained how people lay and sat to be entombed and even bread still in ovens was found at the time of excavations. Another third is still preserved under ash for some future generations to uncover, hopefully in a non destructive way and when total preservation can be achieved as the escavated Pompeii is now being eroded like everywhere else.

The picture shows the Temple of Gods at the end of the enormous Forum and meeting place, at the other end is the political and administration buildings. In the background is the volcano.

In extras I include a Pompeii street (by the way the yellow on the volcano is broom) and a bit of street photography in Sorrento

Thanks for comments on last couple of days, I am a bit behind on posting and commenting !
