Capturing my Journey

Cheeky

These 3 were pet lambs last year and after having been clipped they have come back into the shearing pen to nosey around. The hoggs have been clipped and once the wool is off they are called gimmers. Once we finished the clipping we applied our keel mark which is green on the shoulder plus an extra red for this group as they are on a separate hill so they are easy identified if mixed with the others. Every farm has a different place that they put their keel and different colours. Then they headed back to the hill.

In the photo you can see I have some fleeces hanging to dry, they were yesterdays some were a bit damp. In the white bags is where the wool is packed once I have rolled it. These bags get filled and sewn shut and collected later in the year and are sent to the British Wool Marketing Board who buy our wool off of us. Wool still has little value and generally it costs more to remove it than it is worth. However the sheep need to have their winter fleeces off for the summer.
