The Flatstones Mystery

Driving back home this morning, I noticed something unusual lying on the Flatstones, so I pulled over and walked down to investigate.

Using either an axe or a machete, someone had felled a couple of saplings close by the water's edge, and dragged at least one of them down to lie on the Stones.

Why anyone should do this is a mystery: plenty of people visit the Stones, especially at weekends, but this isn't how they usually treat the place.
