John Knox's Hat

Allegedly the hat that is used at Edinburgh University graduation ceremonies is made from part of John Knox's breeks. Here, Professor Sir Timothy O'Shea is explaining that part of the lining has been into space on the Space Shuttle. Thus, the hat is a mixture of medieval and modern. Who knows? We were in the Usher Hall to see R graduate today. A very slick ceremony but, with the numbers of students, quite long. Loads of clapping too.
