The climb
A few days ago BabyCyclops would stand up against the bottom step but that’s about as far as he went. Now he can go all the way up by himself. With someone chasing behind in case catching is necessary, obviously! And he just skipped straight to that, no getting up a couple of stairs or half way. He’s been a bit like that though, he seems to come to a new skill fully formed when he’s ready rather than having much in between.
We went to the Health Visitor today. Last time we went she said we should come back when he was a year old. It is an extra appointment that others don’t have but they wanted to keep an eye on him because he had been premature.
So we got round to going today. He is 13m actual age, and nearly one by his due date (4th July).
Well as far as they are concerned BabyCyclops has caught up now. He is certainly big for his age, he is now 80cm tall and weighs 24lb. This puts him around 95th centile for height and 80th for weight – and that’s for his birthday, not his due date.
She said his development was quite normal for a 13 month old and that in fact she felt he was verbally advanced. He does babble a lot and has plenty of different sounds.
Lots of people talk about their baby’s first words and we’ve not counted any yet. He says Mamma and Daddy a lot, but indiscriminately. He called the (female) Health Visitor Daddy, and someone on the bus. But I think possibly he might have said an actual real intentional thing today. We were on the bus and so was a dog. BabyCyclops was watching the dog, and when the dog got off he watched it walk down the aisle then stood up to look at it out of the window. Then I *think* he said “doggy”. I think.
