Too many snakes

Last week I opened my front door to find a large snake lying across the threshold ... I think he was catching the cool breeze of my air conditioning escaping under our I'll fitting front door :)
I screamed, I think he did too - and then he slithered away around the corner of the house. I googled him, he was harmless.

A few days later one of the kids found a baby snake in the bathroom! How? I don't even know. Mr Tex caught him and tossed him out front away from the house ... and I told him not to come back ;o)

There have been lots of warnings about snakes in places we wouldn't normally find them because of the flooding, etc... It all left me a bit paranoid about snakes ... When I'm walking around the house in the dark I start worrying that I'm going to step on some slithering beastie, and I keep jumping at the sight of sticks on the ground or toads under plants ...

Yesterday I was startled by a coat hanger on the floor in the closet and I decided it was time to give myself a good talking to ... "no more jumping at every little thing just because you saw 2 snakes - get a hold of yourself!"

Off I went to fetch my vacuum cleaner parts which were drying on the patio after a good clean out. I hopped from the porch to the patio, over the little path (and right over a snake that I didn't even see) ... picked up my stuff, hopped back and as I landed I spotted him right along the edge of the concrete, right beside my feet ... I jumped about 6 feet, may have used a few less than perfect words...and then had the good sense to snap some pics :)

So much for that sensible talking to I gave myself.

There are snakes everywhere!
Check your bed,
check your shoes,
carry a gun with you at all times! ....

Maybe not that bad ... but I'm keeping my eyes open.
