Rusting Peacefully

This old Toyota has been left to rot in the United Mission to Nepal compound for many years.

As an INGO with an agreement with the government of Nepal, UMN are tax exempt for the vehicles that they own, which means the heavy (sometimes almost double the value of the vehicle) import duty imposed on all other vehicles coming into Nepal is waived. The government does still want this money however, and they take it from the sale of the vehicle to the new owner (assuming they also don't have tax exemption status). They want ALL of the tax that should have been paid on the life of the vehicle, making them effectively un-sellable.

Hence the rusting hulk in our compound.
