Mixed building styles in Carlisle

The pub is the Cumberland - one of many in the county. It is one of the best  preserved of the old State Management pubs and recommended by CAMRA. The state ran pubs between the First World War and the 1970s initially to prevent the munitions workers - it was a major industry - having too much with possibly interesting results. I remember a pint of Dark Mild - cost the equivalent of 7p now.
