Cupani

Closely related to the wild sweet pea found in Sicily and Southern Italy this is the oldest of the 'old fashioned' sweet peas. It was introduced to England in the late 17th century when a Sicilian monk, Brother Francis Cupani, sent seeds of this small but highly scented flower to Dr. Robert Uvedale, a teacher from Enfield. New sweet pea varieties were subsequently hybridised from this original.
