What is abstract art?

I have no idea - I'm not well-schooled in art at all.  So today I did a little (very little) research.  I found a book of famous paintings and the first abstract painting they featured was "Yellow Red Blue" by Wassily Kandinsky 1925.  The text described how the colors should make you feel emotions.

So I thought I would try that - shapes and colors to evoke a feeling.  I played around with a lot of different shapes and colors and this is what I felt got something right for me.

And to me - this evokes a strong feeling - it is solid - strong - stable and soothing.  

I took the photo into Lightroom to try to make it look more like "circle" and less like "plate" and it could probably be worked a little more - but I am happy with the results.

A great challenge put forth by youoregon1.  I am looking forward to learning and playing this next month.
