Hang 'Em High (1968)

Jed Cooper (Clint Eastwood) is accused of stealing his own herd of cattle.
But the posse of 9 men don’t beleive he’s innocent. They dispense immediate justice. Leaving him hanging from the nearest tree.

Luckily, steely-eyed Eastwood is saved by Marshal Bliss (Ben Johnson).
Thus, begins Cooper’s mission to clear his name and bring the men to justice.

You don’t remember me, do you? (Jed Cooper)
No (The possse, aka hanging gang)
When you hang a man, you better look at him.

You're lynching those boys. Why?
(Jed Cooper)

Because if the law didn't hang them, the next posse that goes out will say,
"Hang 'em and hang 'em high, there's no justice in Fort Grant." And if there's no justice in Fort Grant, Cooper, there will be no statehood for this territory.
(Judge Adam Fenton)
