Why in the first place is one particular colour associated with the protection of the environment? Why not any other colour, say, red or yellow?

Went to the first lecture of Cognitive Poetics. It is only for 3 year students and the problem is that I'm the only international student in class! I got nervous, but refreshed a bit after having dinner with two of my Japanese friends at a Chinese restaurant nearby.
