Bobbins or reels?

I would always say a reel of thread, my students call the thread cotton ( I always correct them explaining that's what it may be made from, but it might have polyester or nylon in it....they have usually switched off by this point).

Then there is the thorny question of whether it's a reel or a bobbin...even I have lost interest at this point!

I saw these in a display today and liked their old fashioned charm.
