Horn Island Birds
We spent most of the day at Horn Island. The Gulf Island National Seashore Park ranger was doing a nesting bird survey and let me tag along (until I got tired). There were a lot of least terns and several snowy plovers which are both endangered. But the good bird for me was a marbled godwit, which I don't see very often.
The picture shows 3 snowy plovers, a dowitcher with its head underwater, and a marbled godwit. The red flag marks the restricted area of the island which protects the nesting birds.
