Bateau ivre (rue Férou)
Rue Férou is our favourite route from Mabillon subway station to the Jardin du Luxembourg. Since early April we've been following the progress of Dutch artist Jan Willem Bruins' transcription of Rimbaud's poem "Le Bâteau ivre" on the wall of the Direction générale des impôts. It seems he is finally done - the bit he is painting here explains why the poem should have a place in the 6th arrondissement near place Saint-Sulpice (because Rimbaud first read the poem here - view the explanation in large). There will be an official inauguration of the wall on June 14th.
We spent no less than 5 hours in the Jardin du Luxembourg today! T and Ch did all the possbile activities for kids in the park: played in the poussin vert playground, swung on the swings, watched a show in the théâtre de marionnettes (completely charming!), sailed boats in the fountain and rode ponies. The rain held off and I think it was a nice last day in Paris for my niece and my sister who will be heading back to Toronto early tomorrow morning.
