Excavations

We took a day off from walking so that we could visit Vindolanda. This site is an archaeologist's dream, as much of it is swampy, meaning that lots of artefacts have been preserved where they would otherwise have rotted away. There is so much stuff there that it is estimated they will still be excavating it at the end of the century! So it wasn't surprising to see lots of archaeologists, both professional and amateur, hard at work when we visited.
