A tall ship
Can't believe we fitted so much in to today. We started off with an open topped bus tour of the city and then headed back to the Titanic Quarter. Tall ships are in town for the Tall Ships Races and made a very beautiful sight. This is the Gulden Leeuw from the Netherlands, a three masted gaff schooner. The ships were open for visitors so we went on to it later on. The Cisne Branco behind, belonging to the Brazilian Navy was extremely popular and did look particularly stunning with all her flags (see extra photo) and white uniformed crew.
We then visited an exhibition of robots that my husband was keen to go and see though he was disappointed that more of them weren't screen used robots as apparently this is important. :-P
Then onto the Titanic dock and pump house which was another awe-inspiring visit. See the extra photo to get an idea of the scale although the Titanic would have towered above us even as she sat on those little row of blocks at the bottom. So have a wee look at that photo. Then imagine it full of water. Then imagine that water all being pumped out in 100 minutes. Jings. You can go down into the dock and walk about, which takes a very long time.
Now, as any fule know, most photographs you see of the "Titanic" are actually of the Olympic. Harland and Wolff had their own photographer but I suppose as the first to be built, Olympic was the most photographed. Rather a shame to see this fib perpetuated at the pump house though, even to the extent of taking a photograph of the Olympic and simply photoshopping "Titanic" on the bow. Anyway, amazing place. If you get the chance, do visit.
