Carpenter Bee on Lavender

He's got his back to me, but that's fine because his wings are the most wonderfully metallic blue! This fellow is as large a bee as I've seen before - more than an inch in length- but I gather it's almost entirely peaceful so it was lovely to watch - and hear - it travelling from head to head of lavender in search of nectar.
