Top Gun

Today I went on the tour to Landguard Fort in Felixstowe. Quite fascinating to hear all the history of how the fort defended the nation against the Dutch in 1600 and the life of the soldiers living at the fort.

It was a tough life for the soldiers with lots of rules and harsh discipline for those who fell out of line. I was impressed with the size of this gun. It took seventeen men working as a team to fire the gun and three men to just to lift the shell into the breach. They didn't have any ear defenders so couldn't hear much for days after firing.
