Trawsfynydd Nuclear Power Station, Gwynedd, North

We pass this now disused Magnox power station every time we visit our 97 year old mother in law. This time we went to see her to connect her ipad and laptop to a BT landline. (Cellular was proving so unreliable).  This place was built in 1959 and came on line in1965.  It was designed by Sir Basil Spence and one of his references was to make the buildings look like a Welsh Castle. Personally, I am not too sure that he managed to achieved this instruction.  The place was shut down in 1991 and is still being de-commissioned.   It is a horrible thought that in the villages downwind of this place, the instances of breast cancer was five times higher than the national average with other cancers being twice as high as normal.
