Victoria Tower

Castle Hill, Huddersfield had a castle 800 years ago although it fell into disrepair many centuries ago.  The site has been used as to light beacons, since 1588, when it was lit to warn of the approaching Spanish Armada, although I doubt that they would have got very close to Huddersfield, even without Drake's intervention.  The beacon in this picture was erected and lit to mark the anniversary of VE Day in 1995. Victoria Tower was erected to commemorate the 60th year of Queen Victoria's reign in 1897.

Today, there were some great views of the surrounding area, including this one of a very noisy Rugby League match.
