Bumbling Through the Brambles
Today I spent a pleasant couple of hours at the Allt-Yr-Yn Woodlands, Local nature reserve, with my good Friend Ant, better known as Pontycyclops.
The reserve is maintained as far as possible as a ancient woodland and has a few pools and a natural flower meadow. At this time of year although the tree canopy is full of birds the pure amount of foliage make these difficult to see and photograph.
Due to this It is a good idea to concentrate on the other inhabitants of the reserve, mostly Insects and flowers. Today the hedges on the edge of the meadows were packed with all sorts of insects , Honey bees, Bumble bees, Damselflies, & butterflies.
Today's blip shows a Hoverfly,(also known as Flower Flies),Volucella pelllucens, , doing it's best Bumble Bee impression, on the leaves of a bramble that are everywhere around the reserve,(must remember to call back for the blackberries later in the year) .
Also in the meadow, I saw my first Orchid of the summer; this Common Spotted Orchid, which came close to making the blip
