End of an Era
On 2nd July 1950 Sir Henry Haydn Jones, owner of the Talyllyn Railway, passed away. With his death died the pledge he made to keep the railway open for as long as he was the local MP. The line continued to operate until 6 October 1950 when Dolgoch hauled the final train, just one coach and the original 1866 guards van.
Today this last train was re-enacted as part of the Talyllyn 150 celebrations. Starting from the central road, just as all passenger trains did in those days, but with the stock in sparkling condition. In 1950 the line was all but derelict, the one serviceable engine limping along, the coaches battered and worn. The rest, as they say, is history ..... and we are still making it.
If you have not already seen it please take a look at yesterdays blip. It's made the front page which is good publicity for the TR and made me very happy :-)
