La dolce vita il Giovedi
It's Thursday and our last full day to explore. I wanted to visit the Museo dell'Ara Pacis and Mrs Rex the Piazza Navona. Fortunately they are fairly close to each other so once again we headed off back into town. On our way we passed a bride accompanied by a piper in a kilt, who may well have been her father, as he got into the limo with her. At least I hope he was her father, surely not even Scots are that friendly even when they have had a drink?
Museum and lunch in the piazza was followed by ice cream and a trip to the Pantheon, which this time was open and full of tourists like me busily snapping away. The couple in the extra photograph were standing as honour guards at the tombs of Umberto I and Vittorio Emanuele II. As usual in Rome there is always a heated discussion about something going on somewhere and this was another one.
We headed back to the hotel via the Altare della Patria and past the Quirinale where only a glimpse of what lay beyond those doors was available to us. Too many soldiers in the way. Never mind, we knew what lay byond the door of our hotel room. Empty suitcases that needed to be packed. But not until after dinner.
Another early start tomorrow as we head home. Bugger!
