A U3A walk.
Today, back in Sussex, I was leading a walk for a group of local people who like most things which come under the heading of natural history. We met on Mill Hill, a local nature reserve, overlooking a beautiful river valley and the sea. Although it was quite windy the sun was shining and it was pleasantly warm. The most numerous butterfly was the pristine Marbled White flitting about between the flowers offering nectar. Our progress was very slow because there was so much to see but in two hours we recorded 9 species of butterfly, 16 bird species and 78 different flower species ! The 13 people who ambled about with me appeared to enjoy what they had seen and claimed they had learned a lot. My photo was taken looking across the valley with one of the elegant Greater Knapweed in close-up.
