Journey Through Time

Mowing the lawn

Saturday was a much better day as the sun came out to dry things out. My Bill wanted to help them mow their lawn and to try out the new Honda lawn mower. They finally relented to letting Bill help them out, but not without much supervision. Howard, my step-dad, was in charge of helping empty the grass clippings, and Sondra, my step-mom (Oh, I'll explain THAT in the next chapter) was in charge of making sure Howard had on something warm to wear. There was much fussing, but the job got done, much to everyone's relief. This is Bill making sure the gas cap is on right. This is Howard, making sure Bill make's sure the gas cap is on right. :>)

We ate lunch after that and then commenced hours more of playing cards. They play a game called "500" and the point of the game is the first to reach 500 points. Howard, age 86, is still pretty sharp, but we do have some refresher courses on the game and then, fooling us into thinking he is losing his edge, proceeds, with his partner Bill, to win game after game. Then dinner, brief time out to put the feeling back into our hind ends and legs, and then a few more games before retiring to our beds.
