Cuantos kilometros mas?

According to the guide book, when we left the monastery this morning we only had four kilometers to walk until the next town with several bars for breakfast. Nothing was moving in that pueblo or the one after that or the one after that. It was 17 k before we arrived in the town of Guernika, the town made famous by Hitler's bombing and Picasso's painting of the horrific events, before we could find a cafe that was open. That was how the day went. The northern route is far more challenging than the Frances and it is useless to compare kilometers covered as the terrain is so very different. By the time we reached this spot under the tree, e were both exhausted and still had 5k to go. When we arrived at the alburgue, there was no room. They offered us a spot on the floor, the option to walk another 4 k to a different alburgue or to call a local casa rural. After 40 k of intense hiking we could walk no more. We are spending the night in a rural farmhouse before taking the bus into Bilbao on the morning to explore the Guggenheim Etc... It will be a day of needed rest.
