Mousa Broch

Backblipped for 27 May

How often does the ferry sail over a flat calm sea? It was a perfect overnight journey to Lerwick, the small group who had also visited Orkney having joined us at Stromness on the way.

The minibuses met us to transport us all to the hostel and we then had free time for the rest of the morning; Mr Flum and I renewed our acquaintance with Commercial Sreet and the harbour.

The afternoon was scheduled for our first Geo walk, on the island of Mousa, (crossing the 60 degrees North line) visiting the famous broch. Although we'd seen it from a distance, close-up it is massive and gives a unique impression of how brochs functioned.

The weather was fine and sunny but we're keeping an eye on the forecast.
