Day 1: Pit Walk

After another fairly bad nights sleep due to the heat we felt a bit groggy starting the day, and were greeted by a fairly strange breakfast from our b&b owners. It was all a bit awkward as we were reminded for the sixth time about the croissants. Things git much better as we explored the Natural History Museum and the wonderful Pitt Rivers Museum. It would be easy to get lost in there but we limited ourselves so we had time for another explore of Oxford. After a quick bite to eat, we decided to crack on with the main reason for our holiday; Silverstone! After booking our tickets for the Grand Prix, we won tickets for a pit walk so made our way to the track.

We had no idea if there would even be anything in the pits today as things don't officially kick off until tomorrow. I was so excited to get to the track, and it was wonderful arriving and seeing the track for the first time! And even better to see the pits bustling! After queuing for a while, we were filtered down and across the track (we were on the track!), and walked in to the pits! We'd feared we would be ushered through, but were able to be in there for hours! It was amazing to see the cars up close and the mechanics working away. Every now and again a car would be wheeled past for it's check-up with the FIA. When we eventually got to the end of the garages, Will Stevens and Johnny Herbert came out of Manor Marussia to give our flags and chat to the crowd and we had a front row place! Then there was the entertainment of a sniffer dog doing it's job and the cheers/boos of the crowd in the stand opposite as runners and cyclists going round the track crossed the finish line. We took some obligatory photos back on the track of us in the starting grid boxes before finding some seats in the Pitts Straight stand for the drivers interviews on the track. We were treated to Hamilton, Massa, Bottas, Alonso, Perez, Riccardo, Kvyat along with Nigel Mansell chatting in front of us!

We eventually tore ourselves away and were too tired to face going out for dinner, so smuggled in some salad boxes to eat in our room whilst watching Wimbledon and packing for the early start in the morning. What a day!!
