Day 3: Qualifying

We got up at 6am to get an early start and hopefully beat the worst of the traffic getting up to the circuit. We stayed a short 10 minute drive to the airfield and we had a nice, short bus journey this morning arriving at the track before most of the crowds. We took full advantage of this and found some great seats in the Abbey stand from which to watch the qualifying. Before that happened, we were treated to the final F1 practice session, races from the GP1 and Porsche care, and an incredible Red Arrows display. We had perfect seats to spy on activity in the pits through our binoculars and in full view of the start/finish line to cheer Hamilton as he took pole!

It was a gorgeous day, so we spent the rest of the afternoon walking round the site; taking in a ride on the big wheel which gave us brilliant views over the whole circuit, as well as a visit to the History of F1 exhibition. We made our way to the front to watch the fan forum on the main stage to see David Coultard and Johnny Herbert interview Button, Alonso, Hamilton and Rosberg. Alas we had to leave before Vettel and Raikenen to make our last bus back to the airfield. The day was topped off by a tasty meal in a local pub before we returned to pack and prepare for another early morning for race day tomorrow.
