Me as a baby
I haven't changed much.
Watched a program on the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima last night. I won't get into a discussion on the rights and wrongs of using the bomb - I'm not sure you can judge decisions taken so long ago from such a different perspective. I will however cast judgement on some of the actions that followed which are unforgivable and highlight what vile creatures we can be:
~ The Japanese government didn't tell its people what had happened and chose not to send aid to Hiroshima as it would simly lead to a leak ~ There were literally thousands of survivors struggling to exist in the aftermath of the bomb, amongst them thousands of orphaned children. The Americans entered Hiroshima not to offer help but to see the destruction first hand and take photos
~ The after effects of the bomb, i.e. burns, radiation sickness etc. were a total surprise. No one had anticipated this. This came as something of a shock to the Americans but the opportunity to study the victims took precedence over helping them. They used them as live lab rats choosing not to treat them so that they could witness the full course of their demise which they knew was the final outcome. There was archive footage of these poor people being paraded in front of a camera and made to show off their terrible wounds
The so called 'civilised' west doesn't need to look very far back into its past to see how easy it is for any country to fall into the depths of depravity.
