Any idea what this is?

One of the troubles with starting a garden which has nothing in it* is that one plants a lot of things in a hurry. Next year quite a few of them kindly come up again the following year by which time one has no idea what they are!

* Except very ugly shillies - which is one of the reasons why I was in such a hurry to plant things.
