Nenthead Lead Mine

Spent 2 hours plus walking through knee deep water, mud, broken rocks, pitch black and some crawling just to add to the fun. It was great.

The area is full of old lead mining tunnels some of which have been worked since the 17th century and before.

The picture shows a pool of water in which rock crystals are forming in a 'soup'. The geologists who showed us round were quite taken with this.
