Monarchs wintering over.

Most adult monarchs die soon after laying their eggs. However ,in order to perpetuate the species, some have to survive the winter. Apparently most in New Zealand go up to our warm forests in the far north. Now in some sheltered places in other areas they have been discovered wintering over and we have some cedar trees here  in Raglan where the butterflies are. It is quite special to see them at this time of year. Many of you clippers will have seen other blips of them near Nelson, N.Z.
