Jimmy Carter at 90
Carter is the United States' longest surviving president ever. He appeared on public television's News Hour this evening, as spry and well-spoken as ever. I admire him enormously for what he has done since leaving office in 1980. He "may well have improved the lives of more people in more places than any other president"-- see this brief summary in today's New York Times. He has traveled the world fighting disease*, building homes, and supporting human rights.
* An example from the Times' article: "Because of Carter’s work, the world is very close to eradicating Guinea worm disease, an excruciating ailment, and has made enormous headway against elephantiasis and river blindness as well. Only five cases of Guinea worm disease have been reported worldwide in 2015."
