Starch

This is the old starch factory in Veendam, built in 1893 but already abandoned since the seventies. The company that was supposed to tear the remains down, went bankrupt and hence the building is still there.

Nowadays it's even a landmark, reminding of a once very prosperous industry in the peat, in the northeast of Holland.

Ironic detail: the factory is more or less the entrance to a recycling company nowadays.
