Dumfries House
This Georgian House was saved for the nation in 2007 when it was in danger of falling into ruin and more importantly having its contents sold or auctioned. The priceless collection of Chippendale furniture and other valuable works of art were saved literally at the last minute through money raised by a local trust and a substantial loan from the Prince of Wales' Trust.
Today the house is open to the public and several projects have been established on the estate which have provided opportunities for local people, particularly young people, to learn skills and find work.
It is well worth a visit.
